Why South Korea Has Military Service?
In South Korea, a man (of legal age) is required to participate in military service. It is mandatory in South Korea for every adult man to serve in military. They need to do a physical check-up before they are qualified for the training and service.

From Grades 1-7, their military duties are about to work with the civilians, defense during peace time, or standby for any country emergency. Every 2 years, they need to do a re-check up after their military service so they are in a good shape and ready for any circumstances that may have in their country physically and mentally.

The military service is administered by South Korea Military Manpower Administration. According to which branch, (Army, Marine, Navy or Air Force) the length of the service are varied. For non-active duty service, they need to spend 24months at least in the service. It may be longer to 36 months. The citizen demanded for the service to be shortened or the term needs to be changed. But since Bombardment of Yeonpyong incidents in 2010, South Korea Government refused to reduce the service periods.

What Happen If They Refused To Go?
Yes, they were several celebrities who tried to avoid the service. Since the military service is a mandatory service for every adult man with South Korea citizenship, there is no excuse except for medical issues. If a man citizen refused to join the military service without any reasonable excuse, they are committing an offense and deserve to be given harsh penalties.

Military Service is a training to keep the country in peace. Celebrities are not excluded from the South Korean Government law as long as they are a citizen. To all fans out there, this is our idols mandatory duty for their country. After they completed their training, the fans will see them more often again. So, just be patient and lets wish them to be healthy and everything is doing fine and perfect during their military service.
