(Grammar) -은 ,-는 -을 and -를

-은 is used for emphasizing a subject or an object. It is also marks the general topic sentence. -은 follows syllables that end with a consonant.

  • 없어요 There isnt.
  • 신문 없어요. I dont have a newspaper.
  • 신문은 없어요. I dont have the newspaper.
  • 여기 신문은 없어요. There is no newspaper here.
-는 is used for emphasing a subject or an object. -는 follows syllables that end with a vowel.
  • 사과는 참 맜있어요. The apple tastes very good.
  • 누나는 너무 예뻐요. The girl (older than the boy speaker) is so pretty.
-는 can be compressed in a word,example
  • 누나는 to 누난
  • 나는 to 난
  • 너는 to 넌
-을 is an object marker. It follows nouns which end with a consonant.
  • 김밥을 안먹어요? Dont you eat kimbab?
  • 오늘 비빔밥을 먹었어요. I ate Bibimbap today.
-를 is an object marker. It follows nouns which end with a vowel. The object markers are optional in conversation that means you want to use it or not,it is up to you.
  • 영화를 봤어요? Have you watched the movie?
  • 나를 따라해. Follow me.
  • 그대를 사랑해.  Its you that I love. (너,당신,그대 means 'you')
